Almost a MD

Wednesday 28 February 2007 at 5:51 pm As a kid I wanted to grow up to be a pilot, a teacher, a dancer, a soldier, a fashion designer, a fire-woman, a scientist, a cangaroo, an acupuncturist, a photographer and several other things. But I choose to become a MD. But now, six months from graduating, I realize becoming a MD wasn't the end of a long line of decisions. It was the beginning.

Do I want to be a cardiologist? a neurologist? a surgeon? a pediatrian? a GP? a psychiatrist? a dermatologist? a gynaecologist? Do I want to work in a clinic? in research? in education? in management? Do I want to work fulltime? partime?

I don't think I want to graduate at all...

The exchange

Friday 23 February 2007 at 7:47 pm People looked funny at us, where snickering, and just raised their eyebrows... They are obviously not used to seeing something different in 'their' cantine. We didn't even try to attrack attention, but maybe by not trying, we did... Lees verder

Knight rescues dvd

Thursday 22 February 2007 at 2:29 pm It could have been one of my friends... but it wasn't.

Daily work

Wednesday 21 February 2007 at 09:24 am "Your life events are my daily work. So if I don't smile at you in the grocery store, please do not hold a grudge against me... it probably wasn't a good day at work." Lees verder

The black thing

Tuesday 20 February 2007 at 10:16 am One of the projects I finished last-weekend, is a black pair of trousers. Technically, I'm good at sowing and a pair of pants is no challenge... but they never seem to fit me. But then again, I do not easily find a pair of fitting jeans in a store. So the problem seems to be my body and not my sowing. (That's not reassuring.) Lees verder

Finito!!!

Monday 19 February 2007 at 7:57 pm Remember the dress i didn't finish last weekend??? Well, it's almost finished now! Additionally, part 1 (pair of trousers) of my 'punk-style' suit is also done! And all because he told me i wouldn't be able to finish the dress before Easter... It's soooo nice when people know how to 'activate' you, isn't it? Pictures will follow as soon as i can put my hands on a digi-cam :-)

White coat syndrome

Wednesday 14 February 2007 at 7:44 pm After half-a-year of not wearing one, i had to put on a white coat again. This time not as a herbalist, but as a 'trainee doctor'. Must admit that after getting my degree as a herbalist i've never worn the white coat again, so it feels a bit weird wearing it again. Lees verder

Another go...

Tuesday 13 February 2007 at 12:21 pm My previous attempt at knitting resulted in a beautiful purple shawl which my mom made. So when I started to knit a brown beanie, my mom (naturally) was a bit sceptical. But... after six days of intense labour... it's done! And it fits! Finally I can throw those damn DPNs out of the window. How DO you knit evenly with DPNs?

Let me guess... it's just like learning how to knit, just preservere...

Jam

Tuesday 13 February 2007 at 09:26 am Traffic jams are normally just a bit irritating. But when you're stuck in a completely stacked bus together with three loud giggling sixteen year old girls... it's a complete nightmare.

Discoveries

Monday 12 February 2007 at 06:54 am After a busy week we decided to relax this weekend... It turned out to be a weekend full of new things to discover, so here's the list: (this weekend the theme seemed to be lists and garlic) Lees verder

Recipe

Sunday 11 February 2007 at 7:53 pm First of all, she killed the chicken by hitting it repeatedly with a chopping board. After making sure there was no more than five mls left, we stuffed it with frozen spinach… which I creatively chopped. This was followed by piercing what was left of the bird with small wooden stakes. We cooked it, fried it and grilled it; and checked if it was thoroughly heated (we don’t want salmonella now, do we?) Served with a garlic-mustard-chicken stock- lemon juice and some pips-and-left over spinach-sauce and some physically abused beetroots, we’ve had a very interesting meal.

WIP

Sunday 11 February 2007 at 7:28 pm The weekend was supposed to be the time when i would finish my Xmas, B-day, Easter-dress. But since i didn't feel like doing anything it took me a long time (Sunday eve) to start working on this 'project'. It still ain't finished though... but hey, we've made some progress (and Easter is still far away, isn't it?)

Btw, pictures will -hopefully- follow soonish...

Holiday-proof

Saturday 10 February 2007 at 12:19 pm Sowing is great fun, but not the most practical craft one can choose. Indeed, you can make clothes exactly the way you want in exactly the size you need. But you can’t take it with you… ever seen someone sowing in the bus? Or carrying an overlocker and a tent? And while boarding a plane, you can’t take a pair scissors in your hand luggage… (or in your shoe.) Lees verder

Pickle

Saturday 10 February 2007 at 12:18 pm

You never quess what i've found in the Xenos: Tesco's original pickle!!! (for only 40p (for the Dutchies amongst us: 60 eurocents))

I'm happy!!! (i still had some anyway, but hey, more pickle is always good ;-))

Something fishy?

Saturday 10 February 2007 at 12:04 pm Fatty fish will never be the same... From today onwards white fish, deepfried, with a coat of flour and eggs (like 'kibbeling') will be classified as 'fatty fish' (at least in that way, we can still have it when we make our lifestyle change) Lees verder

Alarm!

Thursday 08 February 2007 at 3:30 pm A weather alarm for heavy snowfall: 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches in a day). Schools are closing early. Public transportation stops. The government advises people to stay inside. Do not let the Canadians, Norwegians or Russians hear this...

Off the trolly...

Tuesday 06 February 2007 at 9:13 pm I must admit i'm a bit astonished by what i heard on the BBC today... (and i can't find any info on their site

Honey will be classified as junkfood?!?! Other 'healthy' foods as All-bran, marmalade (i don't think of marmalade as being very healthy, but hey, that's me), and, here it comes, porridge, are also junkfood?!?! But a small bowl of chips isn't?!?!

Weekend tales (2)

Monday 05 February 2007 at 6:06 pm On account of Saint GlinGlin (my families' own kind of Christmas or Sinterklaas) we've exchanged home made gifts in the family. For my uncle, a huge Robbie Williams fan, I've made a "Rock DJ" costume: a black underdrawer with a tiger patch and a white undershirt with a red "11". The next morning I asked if he could show his new costume. "I already have," he said. And with a big smile he explained: "But you weren't there..."

Weekend tales (1)

Monday 05 February 2007 at 5:36 pm After pooring juice in a cracked glass, my aunt annouces a bit irritated: "That's the third broken glass today." As a reaction, my grandpa lifts his glass and examines it closely. After an intense look he says: "It sure isn't broken, but it IS empty." And happily poors himself a second wiskey...

His sweaters

Friday 02 February 2007 at 07:06 am At home I prefer to wear his sweaters. They’re warm, comfy, smell like him and big enough to live in. But a couple of years ago I was in between his sweaters, so I bought myself a big I-don’t-need-a-man-sweater. Lees verder

Special tailoring

Thursday 01 February 2007 at 06:08 am As herbalists we often condemn the medical profession for lacking the individual approach, an approach tailored to the specific constitution of the patient. I had a class about cancer therapy the other day and realised that, in a certain way, we couldn't be more wrong...
