On my way from university to Queck's i managed to see the following things: Tussilago farfara (which i was sooooo happy about!), Trifolium spp (you can't see which one since it's not flowering yet), Symphytum spp (same story, plus couldn't use the leaves either since the plants were still very small), Rubus fructicosus, Allium spp, Capsella bursa-pastoris, something resembling a hedge mustard, the first leaves of Heracleum sphondylium, some thistles, Malva spp, Geranium spp (most often it's the G. maculatum). A very happy herb-spotting day!

...and counting. Next Monday we'll start our well-deserved walking holiday, so it'll be very quiet around here for about 3 weeks. Thought i'd let y'all know.

Today i found some more herbs in addition to the 'weeds' i saw earlier this week... These include Stellaria media, Achilliea millefolium, Ranunculus spp (most propably the repens), Petasites vulgaris (i think), Urtica dioica, Plantago lanceolata, Chelidonium majus, and lots and lots more...

It's amazing what the first real warm days of the year can do. Leaves appearing on the trees, and lots of 'weeds' sudden showing their greens above the earth's surface. Where i'm living now the variety in weeds found alongside the road is slightly less from what i'm used to, but it makes me very happy nonetheless. Here's a list of just a few abundant weeds i've seen today: Galium (lots and lots), Rumex, Glechoma, Lamium, some weeds from the umbelliferae family, and of course Taraxacum.
Hooray spring is in the air!

The first few warm spring days have finally arrived! *hooray* Interestingly enough for the past 1.5 week i've already been in 'spring clean mode'. Trying to sort out all the junk i've collected and instead of leaving it to lie around, i've actually been giving things a place to live. I think it might be contagious since the BF is now sorting out his paperwork as well (or might that just be my nagging?). I've also started to finish the loose ends that are hanging around. First and foremost getting back in touch with my herbs, but also the website (and at least the new spam filter seems to do it's job), books that have been on the nightstand for ages, places to live, what to do after graduation etc. Everything seems to get itself into some order.
By the way, I can't wait for the nettles and cleavers to grow slightly bigger and make nice juices for a nice spring clean!

After buying him his 3rd cookbook he got the clue and made me a 'cappuccinomascarpone-pie' on world pie day *big smile *

"There they were, sitting in the train, carefully glancing at each other. Looking together at the sun, rising at the horizon, big and golden. Shining her warm rays over the frozen dessert of fields. Happy to be able to share this moment with each other and the other passengers."
(and then their imagination took off and they asked me to write a whole book about their story...)

A few days ago we talked about stiles. We concluded that we don't even have a Dutch word for it (please correct me if i'm wrong), that you can't find them in Holland, and even when you know you're allowed on somebody else's land you still feel like a trespasser. Well, i found them on my walking detour (actually quite close to where i live), and indeed felt like a trespasser.

*there's a person on the other side of the table who's worried about his sputum*
"So can you tell me what it looks like?"
"Looks like sperm in water."
