*His mum looking at pictures of BF and me*
"Mmmm... if you hadn't told me this was Roosje i would have thought you'd taken some other girl with you."

*Looks at a picture of me and one of his friends*
"I didn't know he got himself a girl for this ball?"

*sniggering from my side*
"Aaah, oh, sorry, it's you, yeah, now i recognise the dress"

1 down...

... a lot to go.

Being deprived of making stuff for a long time, now the time has come start (and/or finish) all the projects on my list.

Goed gevoel

Tuesday 08 December 2009 at 10:10 am

Gegeven: een holle naad aan een bolle naad zetten, is altijd pielen.

Vraag: als ik bovenstaande weet, waarom heb ik dan een patroon gemaakt waarbij ik dat maar liefst 10x moet doen? Van denim? Twee a drie lagen dik? Waarom maak ik het me altijd zo moeilijk?

... omdat het zo verrekte goed voelt als het uiteindelijk gelukt is!

Motivate oneself

Wednesday 04 March 2009 at 4:31 pm

Most of the time I've got a perfectly functioning internal motivation system (ims). Sometimes this ims isn't enough to keep going, so one has to be creative in motivating oneself...

Today I made a sort of advent calendar. Not to celebrate the days but to count down. Not to Christmas but  to August 31. But the general principle is the same... I've given each day a number, there are about a hundred of them. And I wrapped small presents which I bought or 'discoverd' in the house. At semi-regular intervals I'm allowed to open one small present. (Semi-regular to keep the surprize element in... which is hard to do if you wrapped every gift yourself. ;-))

I hope I've got enough external motivation wrapped...

D.I.Y. stores

Friday 27 February 2009 at 3:06 pm

If the complete lack of logic in the store will not ruin my mood, the male chauvinist pigs staff usually will. Disrespectful awnsers are the rule, not the exeption.

"Lady, you know, there are men who can do this for you." (I know, but I can do it better.)
"Can I help you carry the massive weight of this little board?" (Do I look like I need help?)
"Are you sure you need a construction bucket? The cleaning buckets are in alley 8" (You didn't really say this... I hope.)
"Ohh, what a nice board you have my lady. Please don't tell me you want to saw it in pieces?" (No, I would like to break it using your head...)

Oww, and the last thing: don't you MEVROUWTJE me!

Update I: the most annoying thing of all the above is the simple fact he cut my board 302mm instead of 300mm... so the darned thing doesn't fit. Have you ever tried to saw 2mm off of something? !@#$%^&*
Update II: me solved problem! Me Jane, you Tarzannetje...

Possible impossible plan

Sunday 04 January 2009 at 4:53 pm

This year, we're hoping to finish the huge diy project he started about 16 months ago (!). We've got about a week, fulltime, to finish the last part: the shower. But a lot has to be done: remove the old tiling on the walls and the floor, level the floor, some plumbing, tiling the walls, tiling the floor and don't forget all the finishing. A week time is short, especially if you take into account all the time you'll have to wait for things to dry (glue and stuff). First estimate... I need about 12 days, which is particularly annoying 'coz I've only got 7.

Does anyone know how to make the impossible possible, or at least plannable?
